Race Three: Malaysia

Once again, rain is the game changer. This time, it fell during qualifying and completely changed the look of the grid, for the most part that is. With both Ferraris and McLarens getting the first session completely wrong, and not making it out of Q1 (Jenson Button did, but could not drive in Q2, ending up 17th) the grid took on a much different look with some of the middle teams getting a chance to get to the front of the grid. At the front was Mark Webber, with Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel behind. The race was a humdinger (yes, I really did just use that term) and there was passing galore. The drive of the first part of the race belonged to Lewis Hamilton, as he charged from 20th on the grid, to ninth in just a few laps. But it was Vettel’s day finally. He cruised to an easy, and much deserved, victory in the sweltering afternoon heat of Kuala Lumpur. So, the question now becomes, how did I fare with my predictions? Actually, not too bad once again. And I even predicted the winner this time 🙂 ! Here are the top ten as they finished, followed by my previous predictions.

1. Sebastian Vettel

2. Mark Webber

3. Nico Rosberg

4. Robert Kubica

5. Adrian Sutil

6. Lewis Hamilton

7. Felipe Massa

8. Jenson Button

9. Jaime Alguersuari

10. Nico Hulkenberg

And now, here is what I predicted would happen.

2. Rosberg

3. Alonso

4. Hamilton

5. Massa

6. Webber

7. Button

8. Schumacher

9. Sutil

10. Barrichello

If not for Alonso, Schumacher and Barrichello not either blowing up their engine, having a bad wheel nut or stalling on the grid, I think I could have predicted the whole top ten. But, in the end, I did get Vettel right this time, and am fairly happy with the rest of my guesses. They were not that far off and I will have another go in two weeks when the teams converge on China and the Shanghai International Circuit. See you then!
